I was recently reading an article in “Today in Mississippi” (a magazine for members of electric cooperatives in Mississippi) that highlighted the best burgers of the state. Although not one of the five featured places, I noticed a location nearby named Kenoy’s. Through the years, I passed by this old grocery store hundreds of times and was always too busy to stop. I admit now, that was a major mistake.
Kenoy’s is located just down the road from Coahoma Community College in an old metal sided grocery. Years ago, many store owners across the Delta upgraded their old wooden stores to metal buildings and this was built about that time.

Surrounded by soybeans, cotton and corn, this building with the bright signage offers a menu of all the good things from hot wings to burgers. Groceries, beer, and stage plank cookies are also for sale.

Since I was on the quest for a cheeseburger though, I ordered a regular with onion, lettuce, mayo and tomato. As I stood there listening to meat sizzle and watching the cook work his magic, I realized this burger was gonna be something! I was not disappointed either, as I opened the greasy brown bag and started eating.

Kenoy’s was listed with eleven other great burger places across Mississippi in a section titled, “Cheeseburgers in Paradise.” Since there are so many great places to eat in our amazing state, it is always difficult to pick a favorite. However, I will honestly state this was one of the best burgers I ever had. Looking forward to trying the wings next.
Kenoy’s is located at 4125 Friar’s Point Road out from Clarksdale.
